Ghoul Gaoler by D. William I. Maxwell

Hey, readers! Today, I am reviewing a supernatural novel and I loved reading it. The fact is I didn’t want it to end. Not because it kept me on the edge of my seat but because it was a nice story and the author does a great job of telling us that story.

The prologue is enough to ignite our interest as it offers us our first view of the Bridge Ghost who later comes to be known as ‘Billy’.  The story focuses on Violet and her best friend Emily who embark on an adventure to get back Emily’s scooter, the pride and joy of her life, from the Bridge Ghost. What starts as an innocent search for the scooter turns into a nightmare. Violet discovers a bracelet unlike any and that triggers a lot of events that turns her world upside-down.

Violet must decide, with the help of a vampire named Belladonna, a kobold called Locke, and Emily, whether she should become the new Gaoler or let Billy remain the Gaoler. The Gaoler is a person who protects the human world from the supernatural. Billy didn’t want anyone to be his successor as the burden is too much to bear. The losses he suffered brings tears to one’s eyes while reading the book. Besides, Violet is not strong enough to take on Lugg the underling of an imprisoned witch. Will Violet rise to the occasion or fall flat? That is what we hope to know as the story goes on and the ending doesn’t disappoint. Violet of Mornville shows a surprising level of maturity.

Of course, no book is without flaws. I think the fight scenes could have been written with more finesse but that doesn’t make the story any less compelling. So, I am willing to let it slide. I hope you are too. Overall, this book is well worth your time and I hope you decide to give this book a chance.

Rating: I am rating this book a 3.5 out of 5
