Arlo Finch in the Kingdom of Shadows

Hey, everybody! Today I am reviewing the third and final book in the Arlo Finch series. This book provides a fitting ending to the trilogy. Though it is not as good it’s prequel, it does a great job of keeping the readers hooked. The author doesn’t waste his time in writing unnecessary side plots. Every scene adds to the plot even though we know this only near the end.

What I love about the story

Arlo Finch grows into the hero we expected him to be but his struggles were also clearly shown. No one can be perfect. Sometimes everything seems to happen at random. Is this fate or a random occurrence of events? We will never know but all that matters is that we make a choice and accept the consequences of that decision. This message is clear in this book. One should not forget his principles on his path to become a great person. More than the powers of the Eldritch, more than the impressiveness and magnitude of the spirit world, this message is what struck a cord with me.

What I don’t like about it

The first quarter of the book drags a bit. It isn’t until we dive further into the book that things get interesting. But mostly, the book isn’t in par with it’s prequel. That disappointed me a lot. Also, the plot was a bit drawn out. The death of Hadryn after all the build-up was, due to lack of a better word, pathetic. The author doesn’t show how the Eldritch (the main antagonists) react to Arlo’s actions in the climax.

Rating: I am granting it 3.9 stars out of 5
