Hello readers! I am back with another review. This book is the first one in the Arlo Finch series and is for middle grade readers. A boy moves with his family to Pine Mountain and joins the ‘Rangers’. There he discovers the existence of parallel worlds and magic. Of course, it’s not like the regular kind of magic we have read about. In this book, the rangers learn to manipulate the energy present where the two worlds meet. Arlo’s journey is relatable, and dare I say, believable.
What I love about Arlo Finch
Arlo Finch is intelligent and learns how to be brave, loyal and supportive. Whenever he comes across something he doesn’t understand, he does his best to learn more about it. His transformation from a kid who knows nothing about the realms to a boy who is ready to face what the world throws at him is remarkable. Among the friends he makes, Henry Wu is my favorite.
What I don’t like about the book
I have only one complaint about this book and that is: it takes a lot of time for Arlo to find out what is going on. As a result, there is not much action in the book. But it doesn’t take the fun out of the story. Since it is the first book in a series it set up the world we will be diving into. That’s what it is supposed to do.
Rating: I am giving it an amazing 4.3 out of 5.
Note: Remember, this is a children’s book. So, if you are an adult and don’t enjoy it that’s fine. (Personally, I think everyone will enjoy this book irrespective of age.)
